Appeal for Public's Cleveland Bridge Memories at Transporter Bridge Initiative (Cleveland Bridge)

Cleveland Bridge UK is returning to one of its most iconic creations – the Tees Transporter Bridge – to launch an appeal for stories and memories of the world-famous engineering firm.

Local people are invited to the Transporter Bridge’s visitor centre this Saturday (November 17) between 10.30am and 2.30pm to share their stories of Cleveland Bridge and its structures.

As well as Middlesbrough’s Tees Transporter Bridge, it has also been involved in the creation of the Victoria Falls Bridge, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Thames Barrier, Wembley Arch and the new Queensferry Crossing.

Historian Dr Tosh Warwick has been working with the firm to develop it’s the story of its heritage with the intention of using the material to benefit the wider community, including schools and community groups.

It is also hoped to create various heritage activities, which in turn can be used to promote the North East and bolster tourism.

Dr Warwick hopes to meet and gather valuable material from the public, heritage enthusiasts and educators to help shape the way Cleveland Bridge can use its history as a North East engineering innovator to benefit the wider region.

Dr Warwick said: “Cleveland Bridge and its structures are famous throughout the world and I would appeal for people to come along to the Transporter Bridge this Saturday to share their memories and stories to ensure they are not lost but shared with the wider public as well as future generations.”
