THIS Saturday, October 30 (11.30-12.30) Middlesbrough Town Hall will play host to a talk looking back at the area in the 1970s and 1980s, with attendees encouraged to share memories, bring memorabilia and for those feeling more adventurous…don attire from the era!

Memories of Middlesbrough in the 1970s and 1980s by Dr Tosh Warwick, based on the best-selling local history book, will share dozens of memories and rarely seen photographs of the town from archives, library collections and images from personal collections.

Spanning themes including Middlesbrough's historic buildings, lost landmarks, famous pubs and shops, industry and sporting life, the talk promises to include something for everyone.

The illustrated talk features images of fondly remembered stores including Newboulds and Romer Parrish's, famous watering holes such as The Masham and Madison, as well as memories and snaps of long-lost buildings and venues including the Royal Exchange and Ayresome Park.

Author Dr Tosh Warwick said: "The success of Memories of Middlesbrough in the 1970s and 1980s has highlighted the passion of local people for the area's history and eagerness to revisit events, memorable places, lost buildings and even fashions of the era!

"The past 18 months have proven incredibly challenging for everyone and by encouraging people to have a bit of fun and bring along an artefact from the period, share memories or even showcase some fashion items hidden in the back of the wardrobe it is hoped the event will bring back fond memories and put a smile on faces."

Part of the Discover Middlesbrough Festival, the event is one of dozens taking place throughout October that showcasing the town's art, culture and heritage spanning stories of life in interwar Middlesbrough to walks exploring Boro's former homes.

Those attending the event can also purchase signed copies of Memories of Middlesbrough in the 1970s and 1980s at the event with payment (£2.50 entrance including refreshments) on the door.
