The Stokesley Scene Collection: Life in a Yorkshire Market Town

The Stokesley Scene Collection: Life in a Yorkshire Market Town

£20.00

Thirty years ago four fifteen year old school boys set out to publish a magazine for Stokesley and this book is the result of what they and others have captured. To mark the thirtieth anniversary we have assembled this book with care. It reproduces the eight original magazines and brings many of the stories up to date with what happened next, augments the original material with old and new photographs reflecting the past and present day of the town. We are delighted with the way that this Anniversary Limited Edition local history book has been profesionally produced, reflecting the community and the spirit of the people of Stokesley.

This individually serial numbered book is A4 in size and contains 163 pages with over 180 colour and black and white photographs and illustrations. Our new material includes:- A Foreword from the Rt. Hon. William Hague MP who says, "There is something for everyone - local history, human interest stories and interesting features"; An interview with renowned landscape photographer Joe Cornish; Reflections on Stokesley from James Helm, ex-BBC News; An extended photographic tribute to former Middlesbrough, England and Great Britain football captain George Hardwick (interviewed first for the magazine in the 1970s); Memories of Alec Wright, local artist and historian who made more than 200 contributions to Dalesman, Yorkshire's favourite magazine. However the real stars of the book are the people of Stokesley and the stories they tell, the community groups and the town itself. Through photographs, oral history and current events the book establishes Stokesley's special place as a unique Yorkshire market town in which to live, work and visit.
